FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Learn about the differences between Free and Pro, privacy practices, YouTube subtitle compatibility, and important boundaries when generating images.
What can the free version of Subtitle Shot do?+
The free version lets you generate single-language subtitle screenshots on YouTube pages, with basic subtitle language switching, 3 basic styles, PNG export, and copy to clipboard. Basic screenshots are completely free.
What does the Pro version unlock?+
Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks all 5 image styles, unlimited bilingual subtitle screenshots, custom watermarks, language preference memory, and copy formats optimized for Notion and note-taking tools.
Why are bilingual subtitle screenshots a Pro feature?+
Bilingual screenshots are more suited for language learning, content organization, and long-term workflows — users tend to use them repeatedly, and they require more UI and compatibility maintenance. The free version includes a limited number of monthly trials so you can try it out first.
How do I unlock Pro?+
Click "Upgrade to Pro" on the extension settings page and complete the one-time payment. Pro features activate automatically — no additional steps needed.
Is Pro a one-time purchase or a subscription?+
Pro is a one-time purchase. Pay once and use it forever. No subscription or auto-renewal.
Can I customize the watermark?+
The free version displays a fixed watermark. Pro users can turn off the watermark entirely or enter custom text that appears in the bottom-right corner of generated images.
What is the refund policy?+
Within 14 days of your first purchase, if Subtitle Shot doesn't work as described and we can't help resolve the issue, you can request a refund by contacting support@ideaguard.dev. Situations like unavailable subtitles, videos without subtitles, or violations of the terms of service are generally not eligible for refunds.
Does it read my YouTube account or watch history?+
No. Subtitle Shot's core functionality only reads the subtitles and playback state on the current YouTube page to generate images. We do not collect your YouTube account, subscription list, or full watch history.
Are generated subtitle images uploaded to a server?+
The basic screenshot process runs locally in your browser. Images are copied or downloaded directly to your device. Only when you actively use future cloud sync, AI translation, or similar online features might relevant text be sent to a server for processing.
Which languages are supported?+
Subtitle Shot depends on the subtitle tracks available for the current YouTube video. As long as the video provides subtitles in a given language, you can switch to it and take a screenshot. Auto-translation, bilingual display, and language preference memory will be progressively enhanced.
Why do some videos have no subtitles?+
Some videos don't have uploaded subtitles, may have auto-captions disabled, or YouTube may not have generated subtitles yet. In these cases, the extension can't produce subtitles from nothing, but it will clearly indicate why subtitles are unavailable for the current video.
Who is this for?+
Ideal for content creators, language learners, people who take reading or video notes, and anyone who frequently saves insights, quotes, and course clips from YouTube.
Can I use it commercially?+
The extension provides image generation capability, but the video footage, subtitle text, and original content remain copyrighted by their respective rights holders. You are responsible for ensuring your usage complies with YouTube's terms and the original content's licensing.
